My computer has been sluggish and quits responding at times. Some keyboard keys stop working from time to time but I'm not sure if that's just a keyboard problem. I don't think it is though because the problem seems so random.
I originally ran a full scan with Avast and it detected a generic threat. I think I've seen this or something similar on my machine before semi-recently. I deleted it last time but thought I might need help for more thorough removal in case it's the same one popping back up. I've gone through malware and virus removal before on this machine and the last fix I made was a few years ago in which I had to reformat and wipe the restore files to get rid of a bug hiding there. Haven't had anything serious since.
I have Windows XP on an Acer laptop.
NEW NOTE: Since having originally posted the above info in the "am I infected" forum and received some assistance there trying to get it removed, my laptop is now going to the "blue screen of death" after the windows start up screen. I am scanning and posting in safe mode now.
Also, I tried to run the gmer program once before but my system froze up before it competed, so I'm not sure if it actually completed the first time, but this is the second run.
