xp re-install issue

I dont remember doing anything with a partion .. I do have another storage HDD hooked up .. but it was plug and play.. and everything was done from the XP cd

Disconnect all USB devices

Is your XP cd a genuine XP disk?
If so, boot to it. During the install process there is a way to delete and recreate the partition.
That is what you want to do. Make sure the drive is wiped clean before reinstalling.
I dont think it is.

Save the drivers that you downloaded somehow. USB drive cd or whatever because you will need them shortly.
In the beginning there was the command line.
