BleepingComputer.com: Identify Storage Usage

I am looking to clean up my harddrive and get rid of old or unused files saved/created by either the OS, installed programmes or myself.

Is there any way to check where or by what the majority of my storage space is being used?

In particular when backing up/syncing my ipad I noticed that a lot of space is taken up by the backup folder. I am assuming that the older backup/synced files are deleted but would like to double check and if not I would like to manually delete them.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

I have used SequoiaView to see what is occupying disk space. It's free:

I use both SpaceMonger and WindirStat.

They give you a nice representation and let you quickly figure out where you space is going. Both free as well.

Thanks for the tips those programmes do exactly what I want.

My next question is how much space does Windows Vista premium take up? i really feel like I should have more free space than I actually do but I cant see any major discrepancies from those programmes.

I also have Itunes and Microsoft Office 2007 installed but other than that nothing that should take up too much space.
