Dangerous pics Question

Just a question.

How come there are some pics (.gif .png .jpg .bmp for example) that can be detected as viruses/spywares?

Basically because it can be easy to hide Malware in pictures -

Malware also employs files with hidden extensions...which users cannot see unless they have changed the default XP settings to see file extensions...so what may appear as a graphic (or any other) file...may actually be s malicious file.

If the pic is in the internet, will the threat stay or disappear?

steganos-, or “covered”, and –graphie, or “writing”. So it literally means “concealed writing”.

Depends on the type of malware. It could still exist on a website. That is why some threats have been called 'drive by' malware. Just visiting a site or clicking a picture can get you infected. And this is why we encourage a multi-layered approach to protection as well as good surfing habits.
