BleepingComputer.com: Missing partitions, rogue virus, many other issues

Good Morning.

My problems started last night. Apparently last night, while working doing some research, I went to the wrong site. I got that rogue spyware/malware that tells you that you are infested, and that you have all these files deleted and to scan your computer. I didn't click on any of the boxes, and just unplugged my computer's power cord. I tried to boot into safe mode, and it wouldn't let me. I ran ComboFix, and for a minute it seemed to have worked, at least I was able to get into safe mode. I ran malwarebytes, and removed several bad things, AVG removed a virus, I ran CCleaner, I have ran SAS and removed even more spyware, ran AVG again it was clean this time, malwarebytes again and clean.

Now that I got that all ran, I still have iexplorer.exe running in the back ground, popping up that Internet Explorer crashing, even though I do not use it. Firefox will come up for about 30 seconds, then crash. In the taskmanager, services.exe is using about half of the memory.

And on top of all of that, I have a blank desktop. If you look in Windows Explorer it is there, but the actual desktop doesn't show anything. And my partitions are missing. I have 2 physical hard drives, both are partitioned into 2 or more partitions. The primary partitions for both drives show up, but not the others. While I really don't mind reinstalling Windows, I really have to ensure that I don't lose the partitions since they haven't been completely backed up.

I am running XP Pro, with SP2 installed.

  • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.

• Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

• Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • DDS.scr
    
  • DDS.pif
  
  
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  
• A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  
• Notepad will open with the results.
  
• Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:


Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:
