The mouse (Kensignton USB optical) and keyboard (USB) are nonresponsive. I cannot use them to login to the Dell E310 desktop so cannot do any repairs.
Background: I was in the middle of a System restore, and the restore was taking too long. So I forced my desktop to shut down. Upon turning the computer back on, the cursor sits in the middle of the Welcome display, and both mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. I cannot move the cursor to my username and type the login password.
I have tried:
- booting in Safe Mode, last working configuration, etc. -
- the mouse and keyboard work, as I use the keyboard to navigate SafeMode options, and the mouse works on my laptop.
Running Windows XP SP3. I need help to somehow navigate on the desktop in order to activate different solutions for repair. Without a working mouse and keyboard, I don't see any way to do this. Please help. Thanks.

Solved: I changed the BIOS to boot from the Windows XP installation disk, then did a repair of Windows XP. The keyboard works within the BIOS to allow me to make changes. Mouse still was inactive. Whatever files were damaged were restored during the repair, and now I am typing this reply on the keyboard, with a working mouse. Compromises to this solution - I'm back to SP2 instead of SP3, had to update several antivirus definitions and rescanned; however, all files before the XP repair are intact.
