When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

I seem to have the System Fix virus on my computer. (the fake scanner virus)

I am following: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-system-fix < guide but my rKill (iexplorer.exe one) isn't working.
I double click it, it opens the command prompt, and then it just leads to an error (first showing an error window saying "Installation failed", then "explorer.exe has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution" and then plainly "explorer.exe has stopped working (close program)", not saying what has terminated the program (that area is left blank).

I try to do both of these stated in the guide:
"If you run into these infections warnings that close RKill, a trick is to leave the warning on the screen and then run RKill again. By not closing the warning, this typically will allow you to bypass the malware trying to protect itself so that rkill can terminate System Fix . So, please try running RKill until the malware is no longer running. You will then be able to proceed with the rest of the guide. If you continue having problems running RKill, you can download the other renamed versions of RKill from the rkill download page. All of the files are renamed copies of RKill, which you can try instead."
1. constantly running RKill over and over again with the warning screen on
2. using the other renamed versions of RKill
still doesn't work

Not sure what is going on but I want to fix my computer. ;__;

I already malware scanned (quick and full) but I only found 2 things which I already deleted, for some reason can't find any more.

.-. I'm kind of new to this so if someone could please help me that would be great >.< I have many important things to do on my computer .-.

P.S. does anyone know whether or not I can check if I still have the virus on my computer?

Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I was having a similar problem. I loaded it a few times and finally got Rkill to work. i then used Malware and it found 2 files whihc I removed. It automatically restarted my CPU. When it restarts it mentions I need a disk check for NSTF. it runs down the 10 second clock and then says that recently downloaded software is preventing a system disk check. When I log back in despite malwarebytes saying it removed the same issue comes up. I try to use rkill again and malwarebytes tells me it's a trojan. I try running everything again and it does nothing the same black background and system fix virus screen keeps popping up. If I search for files some show up but still everything is hidden. I tried to load safe mode but my CPU freezes everytime I try. his started last night

Hi deriik2020,

If you still need help with your computer, please read this topic, and then create a new topic in the Am I Infected forum.

Hi Hatsukoi,

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer.

My name is Jason and I'll be helping you with your computer problems. You can call me by my screename jntkwx or Jason is fine.

Some things to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please do not attach logs or put logs in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can also help.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.
  • If you don't understand a step, please ask for clarification before continuing with any future steps.

Click on the Watch Topic button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

Note to others: The instructions here are intended for the person who began this topic. If you need help, please create your own topic in the appropriate forum.

:step1: Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer Log Errors
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go . Please put code boxes around just this entire log, like this, but without the letter x: [xcode] paste the MiniToolBox log here [/xcode]

:step2: Let's try rebooting into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu with several options. Press the down arrow key on your keyboard until Safe Mode with Networking is selected. Press Enter. Please see here for additional details.

:step3: Once in Safe Mode with Networking, download rkill from one of the following downloads (if you are unable to download or run rkill from one download, move to the next one.)

1. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
2. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif
3. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
4. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/eXplorer.exe
5. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/iExplore.exe
6. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/uSeRiNiT.exe
7. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/WiNlOgOn.exe
8. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.exe
9. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.com
10. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.scr
11. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/eXplorer.exe
12. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/iExplore.exe

Please be patient while Rkill looks for various malware programs and ends them. When it has finished, the black window will automatically close and you can continue with the next step. If it appears like Rkill did not stop the malware from running, please try running RKill again until the malware is no longer running.

Do not reboot your computer after running RKill as the malware programs will start again!

:step3: Rerun Malwarebytes
Still in Safe Mode with Networking, open Malwarebytes, click on the Update tab, and click the check for Updates button (the latest update as of this post is 8260).
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

If you have trouble updating, troubleshoot Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

:step4: Still in Safe Mode with Networking, please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.

  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

In your next reply, please include:
  • MiniToolBox log
  • Malwarebytes log
  • GMER log
  • How's your computer running now?

Regards,
Jason
