hi

when I double clicked the repair.bat file a black box popped up for 1 second then went away. Not sure if it worked, nothing else happened after that. I then tried to download 9 updates at Windows update, I got a msg that said Failed: 9

Error code 80096001

The computer is in the same state as before with the Security Center showing me "Microsoft Security Essentials is out of date" and "Windows defender is out of date"

I tried again to click on update Microsoft Security Essentials, it tries for a few minutes, then gives me the same error about not being able to check for update due to a connectivity issue.

Hi

Not sure what is wrong.

I went to the site you mentioned, ran FixWin, nothing changed.

Ran Fix MSE Utility, it said Essentials is not found on my computer.

I unistalled Malwarebytes, restarted, same...

I removed Esssentials, restarted, then reinstalled Essentials, I'm in the same boat!

Now when I go to Windows Update, it does not show me any updates that are due to install, it just has a "check for updates" button, when i try to do that it says..error 80096001

Uggh!

So it seems right now I"m not protected since I got the msg that
"Essentials could not be found" Do you think I should try to uninstall it and put avg back on? or can you recommend another protection service that is free?
