I am working to get access to alter the Boot Order Options. When I log unto the Menu of options it has only limited access and I can't alter the site. The arrow keys are non responsive. I am trying to obtain a computer that I can create a floppy of the boot files to attempt using that drive.

Hello, JSntgRvr is having some connection problems so I will take over this topic.

If I understand correctly you can load xPUD from the CD, right?
If so, can you test if the firefox browser works under xPUD (it is in the second tab).

Did you manage to get your usb drive recognized by xPUD by plugging it out and in (it should then show up as sdb under mnt after a some time (up to a minute).

Thank you for taking on my case.

Progress. I was able to access Mozilla Firefox from the xPUD boot. I have web access. When I insert the data stick it lights up but I don't know what to look for to see if it reads the files loaded. When I check the mnt file tab it displays sda1, sda2, and sdc1.

I have not backed up my files since June, 2011 and I would love to back up my .pst, .doc, and xls files if possible.

Sorry for my delayed response, but I haven't always had email access with my computer down.
Thanks again,

Have you verified if sdc1 might be your flash drive?

I have performed a test on the working laptop that I have downloaded the USB boot files unto the desktop and then attempted to load unto the USB. I tried booting the laptop from the USB but did not have success on it either. I have a theory that the sophisticated security (Sophos) installed by the school board may not allow the download or the format as we need (although there are no messages to alert me of a block). In the morning I wil go to another computer to attempt to execute the procedure on another XP PC and hopefully it will create a usable boot USB.

Our string of responses does not have the previous link for the xpud and unetbootin files, Could you respond with the links? I have copied the procedure in a hard copy so I can follow the previous instructions.

I did not attempt to check the spud mnt sdc1 icon to see if the USB is active as you suggested since I am trying to establish that the USB downloads are correct at this moment.

Thank you once again for your perserverance.

In post #4 you mentioned you had created the xPUD cd and you could boot from it. Therefore you can just use that CD, no need to create a bootable USB drive. We just need the USB drive so we can save and transfer the MBR dump.
