BleepingComputer.com: Ram Compabity Issue

hello bleeping computer,

I just recently build my last computer build for about 10+ years however I got into a RMA situation with an incompatible memory for the board that I have. I research it and found it on the AM3+ Memory QVL but when I called Tech Support they said it was incompatible. So I am wondering what is compatible with my motherboard? I would like to get Corsair memory 16GB or 8GB.

The motherboard is being RMA at this moment because when I had install it it would boot but not a single beep or video output but everything is running. So I couldn't do nothing expect to RMA it and have them flash the bios to 705 to support AMD3+ AMD FX 6100
The ram is returning to New Egg.

Did I make the right call to purchase a ASUS motherboard?. Is it better to buy ram first and complete the RMA? What do you recommend RAM?

Ok, no offence however your English is a bit difficult to understand at times cox, however I think I understand everything you're saying. You returned your motherboard and ram. The ram was incompatible with the motherboard, and the motherboard was broken (or didn't have the BIOS to support an FX-6100) anyway?

1 - RAM should always work, even if not on the QVL (are you sure it didn't work??). However to be sure before you buy a replacement, check on the motherboard's page for a QVL that applies to your motherboard. If you give us the specs we can look it up for you.
2 - The board should probably have worked anyway.. but we'll see once you get a new one back.

I've had a similar issue like that before with my build. It really could dead ram slots which is preventing it from booting up.

Now for the funny part TS said it was incompatible RAM but they told me that we have mistake made on the QVL list.
BIOS updating; TS "we already told you that the bios wont support AMD FX 6100 out of the box you have to return it to us or beg for a cpu at local store and have them update it or buy it from Estore and solder it to the board. I know how to solder but I am not certified ASUS tech so that would automatically void it"

I did do a test of pulling out all the memory and gpu it didn't yell it just sit there looking for life

That G.Skill ram is nearly identical as mine one but i runs at 1600, so basically that ram should of worked even if it wasn't on the QVL list. Also that Asus guy is completely wrong, the motherboard does support the FX-6100, you just need to update it to the latest BIOS and i'm not sure what he was on about the soldering part.

He wanted me to buy the BIOS chip (I/C chip) and solder it myself. That would be a modification by an unauthorized person according to the warranty by ASUS

So anyway I just said "I prefer to RMA it and you fix it" I brought it from amazon before the cpu came out and I have the original BIOS.

I was unable to update the bios or to flash it because It would just sit there and smile at me. the solution that ASUS gave me is to buy an older cpu and updated the bios amd reinstall the AMD FX 6100.

Is there anyway to tell them that they have bad Technical support or could i ask what are your credentials (A+,MCP, and etc). I know they read from a script and they have levels. I would not buy from them if I ever replace this motherboard after this one if I need to.

That was a good move by telling them you wanted to RMA it. Why would you want to offer some a BIOS chip when they know it will void the warranty, it's just plain stupid and it is quite a hassle to do it sometimes. My credentials would be someone that can actually a save problem and not be a idiot.
