HI everyone, i saw this website on the internet and i snooped around and saw really good reviews for this website.

I am trying to build a Gaming Computer but im getting stuck on a few things.

So far, I have this tower i plan on purchasing http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Dark-Fleet-DF-85-Gaming/dp/B003JH7MIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321493527&sr=8-1

And for the motherboard i wish to purchase a AMD mother board. Im not sure which MB would be best and which processor would be compatible.. I currently plan to put in a Corsair 8 GB for my ram.
I also need help on which Graphic card would be good and compatible and be able to play every game on the highest settings. I have a ASUS 23" HDMI monitor.
I also want to put in a Quad core system instead of Dual.

Im not really on a budget but i would like to keep it under 700 if possible.

Thank you in advance.

Is that tower part of your $700 budget? If it is, then you won't be getting a powerful system as it eats up nearly $150 of your budget. Here's an idea:

Case: If this is outside of your budget, then great, it is already taken care of!

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 - This is a good, basic motherboard. If you are going to be doing Crossfire, a 990FX based board would be best, like the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX. $99

CPU: AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ - You have several choices here, this is one that can get somewhat closer to your budget. For a time, Newegg is running a special on this with a free DVD burner as a gift. The next step down, would be the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz, followed by the AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz. $169

GPU: XFX HD-687A-ZHFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB - This should run most games at max, of course, that all depends on how the game is coded and what you play. The next step up is the SAPPHIRE FleX 100312FLEX Radeon HD 6950 2GB, followed by the GIGABYTE GV-R697UD-2GD REV2.0 Radeon HD 6970 2GB. The 6970 hovers between the GTX 570 and 580 in terms of performance, if you are more familiar with Nvidia GPU's. $169 (Before $20 mail-in rebate)

PSU: ENERMAX NAXN ENP550AWT 550W - This is enough for your build, as specified by the GPU manufacturer. If you want to use multiple GPU's, you may want to consider a higher wattage unit. $64

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - I use this, it is a 4GB stick of DDR3-1600 RAM. You would need two to get 8GB. $49.98 ($24.99 per module)

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD2500AAKX 250GB 7200 RPM - Thanks to flooding, hard drive prices are spiking. $94

ODD: Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model AD-7261S-0B LightScribe Support - For a limited time, that FX-6100 CPU comes with this for free. $20

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM - You need this. $99

Grand Total: $769 (Before taxes, shipping, and rebates)

Wow, thanks a lot. A lot!

The tower is not part of the budget. Do you recommend a 6 core system?

And wouldent it be better if my graphics card was 2 gigs instead of 1?

I would like to play games like Skyrim, MW3, BF 3, and crysis all on Highest settings.

1GB is enough unless you play with a massive resolution. Most games don't use 6 cores, so quad core should be fine.

Then a 6 core processor would do which will push the budget further then $769.

Well, it's up to you really.

2 or more gigs of VRAM is only recommended for those playing the latest games at really high resolutions. If you foresee a bigger, HD monitor in the future, go ahead and get the 2GB one.

As for a six core processor, apart from two specific games(recently read about it), all others max out by using only four cores (quad core). In fact, some games actually run better on a dual core rig, compared to a quad core one. In any case, I can't really comment on the future. Maybe with the advent of newer games engines, some folks might actually code a game to use all six cores in the future.

So if you don't mind the cost, go for it, although you won't see any immediate benefit from it. :)

Thanks everyone. But do you guys recommend I get a 2 gig graphics card and a 6 core system for a good, somewhat high end gaming computer?

A 2GB card is great if you game at high resolutions beyond 1920 x 1200, or use VRAM intensive operations, such as super sample anti aliasing. However, if you like to tweak or mod your games to use higher texture maps or make adjustments that require more VRAM, then yes, get a 2GB card. Keep in mind, however, that for a five-year lifespan, you would need to get a Radeon 6900 series for it to really last a while without upgrades, same thing for the CPU.

Yep, DJ is totally correct. I recently built my system in July and i wanted it to last for a 4 year life span, so i decided to get 2 6950 and a X6 which is a 6 core cpu. So i reckon by having a bigger budget if possible, you can actually put one that will last that 5 year life span.
