Hi there.
I’m looking for a bit of advice / opinion ahead of some possible rebuilding.
Recent upgrades mean I have freed up the following motherboard,CPU and RAM:-
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Codename Conroe
Specification Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Package (platform ID) Socket 775 LGA (0x0)
CPUID 6.F.6
Extended CPUID 6.F
Core Stepping B2
Technology 65 nm
Core Speed 1998.0 MHz
Multiplier x FSB 6.0 x 333.0 MHz
Rated Bus speed 1332.0 MHz
Stock frequency 2400 MHz
The RAM is 2Gb ( 4 modules ) of Corsair DDR2 PC2-6400 (400 MHz)
I use a second PC to run various apps for gaming and some other bits and bobs which is now quite an old unit. It has the following spec :
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
Codename Manchester
Specification AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
Package Socket 939
CPUID F.B.1
Extended CPUID F.2B
Brand ID 5
Core Stepping BH-E4
Technology 90 nm
Core Speed 2394.3 MHz
Multiplier x FSB 12.0 x 199.5 MHz
HT Link speed 798.1 MHz
Stock frequency 2400 MHz
Its RAM has 2Gb of Dane-Elec DDR PC3200 (200Mhz)
I was thinking about swapping out the AMD board and CPY for the Intel. Is it worth the trouble in terms of a performance boost ? What about just swapping the RAM and using the Corsair DDR2 memory on the AMD board ?
Adivice always appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew

Both ram are different, the AMD one is uses the older and slower DDR whereas the Intel uses DDR2 which is newer and faster then the DDR. Also it is better to use the Intel for gaming as it is much faster then the AMD.

Thanks for the comments folks. Yes I do appreciate that the DDR2 will not fit the AMD board - I think I was having a senior moment when I suggested fitting the new DDR2 in the old board
My key question was regarding the processor and your views are appreciated. I'll have a go with the Intel.
Thanks again.
