or maybe not done just yet

the vista install is still not right it seems
it ran all night with defrag just fine but it has been randomly freezing in odd ways like totally unresponsive in every way except the mouse can still move but not even caps\number lock lights will change
running a full virus scan seems to be what sets it of quickest

just came back then to see it finishing another boot time checkdisk after i had left avast doing a full scan then it started with a bluscreen error report

giving avira a go in safe mode as it has been good at rooting out deep problems for me in the past i just hope it boots again afterwards
it has already found 5 more detections

its possible they are just false positives and the instability is just due to it being a old vista install or maybe even a hardware problem i haven't gotten that far with tests yet just thought it was worth mentioning here

I need to see those reports. If you can save these, post them in a reply.

which reports and how would i go about finding them?

the pc crashed with avira running in safe mode
so i ran prime95 for 40min memtest86+ for 1 pass and wd hdd tool full scan from a boot cd all passed without problem

i have since installed windows 7 to a ssd to dual boot along side the old vista install so thanks to you they can still go back to vista and the software installed on it when needed

I must see the report on every scan you do . It is the only way I can advise you.

Please run AVAST once again and let me know the outcome.

By the way, you can't have more than one antivirus at a time in the system. It will slow down its performance and in occasions crash. In addition, if the antivirus is providing Real Time protection, there is no need for a firewall.

Overprotecting your computer is not the answer.

ran a full scan with avast from in windows 7 with all other drives attached and it completed successively finding nothing

im guessing the few things avira found before it crashed were false positives and as it crashed there is no log unless i reinstall it and try again
i only installed avira temporarily while in safe mode (so avast wasnt running) to double check if there was anything left avast didnt find as it seemed a little odd that it was crashing during a av scan but i think it just comes down to it being a old slightly damaged vista install but it should be stable enough for them to go back to when they need it

Very well.

Rename Combofix to Uninstall and click on it. That should launch and remove the application. Remove AVAST quarantined items.

Be safe. Posted Image
