- Various programs don't run, e.g. Imgburn - says no permission..
- Removed AVG free (Avast was removed months ago, but still has files?)
- Installed Norton Endpoint protection from thumbdrive(stand alone, not off server)
- On clean computer, read various forums (e.g. http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=11656.0) and attempted to run ComboFix (I know, later I learned it's a mistake to do this on one's own). Combofix wouldn't run anyway because 'CA Antivirus installed', AVG folder wouldn't delete even though removed by Add/Remove programs
- rebooted to Safe Mode (no networking), able to get Imgburn to work by reinstalling and renaming imgburn.exe to something like 'safecopy.exe'; backed up pictures and Thunderbird
- On clean computer copied various anti-malware programs to CD; then on infected computer, ran MBAM in safe mode, found 8 items, removed [log available]; still gives error message, no network
- Tried 'netsh winsock reset', and said "procedure entry point MigrateWinsockConfiguration could not be located in dynamic link library mswsock.dll'; then showed window (briefly) with something like 'following helper.. not loaded.. IFMON.dll'
- rebooted to Safe Mode with networking; Symantec showed window saying 'cleaned ZeroAccess Trojan'; disable Symantec Endpoint Protection; network OK (from Safe Mode); updated MBAM's definitions, now won't run "don't have permission"
- ran rkill, no procedures terminated [log available]
- created Kaspersky boot CD Rescue disk 10 on clean computer, ran and deleted virus [log available]; on reboot to normal windows, no error message but still no network & 'netsh..' gave same error message; Symantec AV detection box came up again but empty
- reboot to safe mode, Symantec finds and cleans Trojan.ZeroAccess
- ran DDS [log below and attached]
- ran gmer [2 logs attached - Ark.txt and an ealier version I ran before seeing your instructions to uncheck IAT/EAT and drives other than C:, in which it found a rootkit]
- ran TDSS killer, found 7 threats, including one rootkit infection, hung with 2 seconds left, manually stopped scan [log available]
- ran OTL [log available]
I'm using a thumb drive to bring log files from the infected to a clean computer, local networking not available. Is this safe, ie. to prevent spreading the virus?
Thanks for your help!
Tom
