BleepingComputer.com: adding a ssd

I had a windows update fail (computer restarted during windows update) and now I cannot start/repair my computer. I have purchased a new copy of windows 7 but I cannot get to the point to delete what is left of windows so I can reinstall windows. My plan was to eventually add a SSD for my OS so I am wondering if I remove the HDD and install a SSD, could I install windows on that and then reinstall the HDD and delete everything off of that. If I can do this, I have learned in my research that I need to eventually move some windows files to the HDD to stop it from using up the read/write cycles of the SSD, what files would I need to move and how would I move them? Has anyone had a similar experience or have any advice? Thanks.

Try DBan, which will literally wipe anything out of the hard drive and then install the SSD. Simple as that, no need to muck around with the old system files.

could DBan wipe a partition of a HDD or does it wipe the entire thing? I have the OS in its own partition and all other files in another partition.

I believe it wipes the entire drive but you should really back it up.

its messed up to the point I can't back it up, windows goes to start up repair and sits there for as long as I leave it and never fixes anything, thanks for your help!

You could hook the hard drive to another computer and try retrieving the file.

Ended up getting fed up with Windows 7 and decided to try Ubuntu, once i put that disk in it allowed me to reformat my partition and i ended up switching back to Windows 7 just because i was more familiar with it. Thanks for the help.
