Should i get Windows 7?

Hey guys, quick question. I have windows XP and have for some time now. My friends and family all tell me that 7 is the new way to go, but ive been a bit skeptical. I mostly game and use the internet, so here are my questions: should i upgrade to windows 7 or not? what are the +s and -s of doing so? is it a waste of money? should i just keep what i have?

The main thing you need to find out before purchasing a Windows 7 disk is whether or not your system can handle it.

The 2nd link posted by hamluis has a link to the upgrade advisor. Run it first.

Hi -

I agree that Item 4 in the second link by hamluis is one you should note if you want to upgrade your current system.

Or, if you can, I got a laptop with Windows7 but still kept my XP desktop unit -

EDIT - Plus you can use DirectX 11 safely with Windows 7, but only DirectX10 with XP (Better graphics)

The other thing to remember is you'll need m,ore memory and you will have to re-install programs and internet settings.

The only upgrade path from WinXP to Win7 involves a clean install of Seven. Don't forget to back up anything you don't want to loose just in case.

My first Computer had a Whopping 16K of memory @ 0.89MHz
My first hard drive held 20 Megabytes and never got filled up.

You don't actually say if you intend upgrading the existing computer, or buying a new computer.
If cash is no problem I would recommend a new computer as they are built for Windows7. That usually means at least a dual core processor and over 2GB of RAM.
An older XP based system, although may handle W7, if enough RAM, it will be as slow as the old XP was if not slower as W7 needs a lot more resources to run well.
