Macbook Restarting on Shutdown

I have a late 2008 model macbook. The black plastic one.

It seems that every time I shut it down it restarts, or if I close the laptop to go into sleep mode it goes into restart mode? :inlove:

It seems that it could be some overheating issue?... Or could it be a virus??

I want to take it apart to check out my heat sink fan but fought I should ask you guys for suggestions before
taking the time to do such a task!

Is everything updated like the BIOS, Hardware Drivers, and do you have any USB devices plugged in?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Everything is updated, I ran a hardware diagnostic with system profiler and it says passed

There is no usb devices plugged in.

What I am trying to find out if this is a hardware or software issue....?

On windows this would indicate a hardware issue dealing with the BIOS or a Driver.

Makes sense..

I did install Hp Printer drivers, before this started happening and if I know hp there drivers have issues sometimes

I will go ahead and uninstall them and see what happens :lol:

Start with running a Disk Repair. Go into disk Utility - choose First Aid - then choose repair permissions. Might be software related so that might fix it. Are there other users on your laptop? If so, log in as them and see if the same thing occurs. If it does, then it looks more like hardware related issue.

Did we get the answer here? I don't see it. I would hold down the power button till it shuts down really shuts down no screen message.

Un power it, and then pull the battery for 20m no power .
