Something on my wife's laptop completely wiped out her icons and right clicking on the screen has no effect. The only way I managed to access her computer at all was cntrl-alt-delete then new task and browse. The browser kept re-directing every time I did a search. I used stopzilla thinking that would help - but not much. They want $100 to go in and figure it out. I half think they did it to her computer so they could make money...
HELP! (No I dont have my OS disc anymore - I have no idea what happened to it..)

Hello, I moved this from XP to Am I Infected
As you do not have a disk we can only try a couple things..
This infection family will also hide all the files on your computer from being seen. To make your files visible again, please download the following program to your desktop:
Unhide.exe
Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run.
If you can Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
