BleepingComputer.com: Assistance please

I just removed that IMAGING program from my computer as i dont ever use it and want to clear up some space...

I went to Control Panel/Add remove programs/Windows Setup and i unchecked "Imaging"

I uninstalled the program,cleared everything with "Kodak" from the registry but 2 keys keep coming back!

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Imaging.Document

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WangImage.Document

These keys both point to C:\Windows\KODAKIMG.exe (under the server key)


HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE 2 KEYS -- I remove them and 2 minutes later they are back!!

I tried to set server to "" which means NO PROGRAM IS ASSIGNED TO THAT (It keeps changing back) I saw some other server keys set to "" in my reg..

I would assume SOMETHING is still saying in the reg I HAVE THIS PROGRAM when i now dont anymore........ Its very strange!!

It was still in WIN.INI and i had forgotton i LOCKED that file months ago because i didnt want the contents changed WITHOUT ME KNOWING IT.. (As it had been a couple times and i wasnt sure what was changed)

I did a name search for KODAKIMG.EXE in every file i have and i discovered it was in WIN.INI and then i remembered i made it READ ONLY.. (Otherwise it would have been taken out automatically) I edited the file and took the section with that program listed....


Sometimes the most simple things turn out to be the cause!!

First of all it is not clear what IMAGING program we are dealing with.
From reading further I gathered that it is a Kodak product of some sort.

Huh??? What does this mean?

It is really kind of hard to understand your post.
If you just want to get rid of those two registry keys don't worry about them!

What is the exact issue?

The win.ini file is present in Windows 95 and 98 for backwards compatibility only.
I would suggest not messing with it or the registry unless you are very astute at what you are doing!

Edit: Ohh, you are talking about both Windows imaging and a Kodak product.
Two entirely different programs. Please clarify.

Yup everything is OK my friend.....

I made WIN.INI READ ONLY months ago as it is an important SYSTEM FILE and i dont want the contents changed UNLESS I KNOW ABOUT IT.....

Win.ini is pretty much a moot file in Windows 95 and above.
It used to be very important in Windows 3.1.

As I said before, it is there for backwards compatibility only and really doesn't even need to exist.
It isn't an important system file at all.

There are many that are much more important!

Oh yes i realise that!! (system.ini for example)

System.ini is also present for backwards compatibility only & is not required for Windows to load.

It is in Win98se bud!

One time i accidently deleted it while deleting temp files and when i booted up next time the computer told me it couldnt find SYSTEM.INI and it shut down..... (I had to restore a prev registry (Which contained the file))


Maybe there is a way to have it boot w/o those files but by default,IT EXPECTS THEY ARE PRESENT!
