I have WMP716 as one of my startup items. Does anyone know what this is? It does not come up at all in a Google search. Thanks!

Right-click on it - Properties - where is the file located?

It is listed on the Startup tab on the System Configuration Utility.
WMP716 is checked.
Command is: rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\wmp716.dll", Startup
A search of the competer for "wmp716.dll" produces nothing.

My first thought would be malware
Download, install, update and run MalwareBytes AntiMalware
Get the free version & run the complete scan.
See if it finds and removes anything.
In the beginning there was the command line.

Yes i was going to say it most likely is WMP related......

I have several WMP*.dll files.......

If you cant find this file doing a search it may not be on your computer anymore OR IT IS HIDDEN.... Try searching with the search feature in REGSEEKER,this WILL SHOW IT even if it is being hidden in Windows Search....

Good luck!

And the file is not located in your Windows folder (C:\WINDOWS\wmp716.dll)?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, really appreciate your help!

Malwarebytes tuned up no infections; also ran RKILL before I rean MB.

Windows Media Player sounds plausable. But if this were true I would expect a Google search for "WMP716" to turn up something on that.

The file is not in C:\WINDOWS\wmp716.dll. It is not anywhere on my computer. I have done a search and set up my folders to show hidden files.

Here is some more info that may be relavant. I recently had the Zentron virus. While I was battling that infection, sometimes on reboot I would get the message "Unable to find WMP716.dll.". I finally removed the virus using the procedure outlined on this website. The message at startup went away. However it is strange that it is one of my Startup programsand also re-checked itself somehow (I had unchecked it previuosly). I am thinking it is probably unrelated to the virus problem?

It just seems strange that for a startup program there is no information online.

Then don't worry about it. If it's in your startup folder you may safely delete it.
Or you can download and run Mike Lin's startup Control panel, find the entry, right-click on it and "delete"

What folder would it be in? I can only see it by running msconfig. I downloaded Mike's programs but it does not show up in it.

No I am wrong! It does show up in Mikes program under HKCU/run.

The program name is Gqizagakusadiy.

What is this thing?

HKCU / run is the registry location where the startup entry is, not where the file is located. If the file is not on your system go ahead and right-click and delete. You might also want to run full scans with both MalwareBytes and your anti virus app.

Just deleted it. Thanks Allan. If it comes back that would be interesting.

I have Zone Alarm, maybe I need something different.

Personally, I've never used a 3rd party firewall.

Do you just use the windows firewall? Mine never seems to do anything other than tell me my ZA virus is out of date.
