BleepingComputer.com: firefox running slow

Hi!
Recently our computer has started running verrrry slowly. It takes forever to load pages, and many times we have to refresh to get it all. It is much better on Internet Explorer than Firefox, but we much prefer Firefox. We have run scans on Avast, Spybot, and Malware Bites...all come out clean. My husband ran something called c cleaner (sp?), and he defragged. It seems to be getting worse instead of better.

It would be great if you could help us figure out what is going on!

If you're using Firefox 3.x, close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode).
If you're using Firefox 4, or higher go Help>Restart Firefox with Add-ons Disabled.

It's just as bad, if not worse. This morning I re-ran spybot, avast and malwarebytes. Spybot found rightmedia, repaired it. Everything else was clean.

Ok-I set up a new profile....it's still very slow. I'm not very fast at doing some of this stuff, so thanks for bearing with me.

I should also add that it is now having problems loading pages

Uninstall Firefox completely using this guide: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Install fresh copy.

Did not help-beginning to think we have a bigger problem than firefox.

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:

  This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  
• Zipped Mirror

• Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  
• Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  
• Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  
• Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
  
  
  
  
• GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  
• If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  
• Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  
• When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  
• Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  
• Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Ran the security check and the notepad document came out blank-all throughout the scan it said path not found and file not found. What on the world?

Try again.
If same issue proceed with other steps.
