hi there , i am running xp with a 60gb ( partitioned to two 30 gb) harddrive - one for sytsem and programs and the other documents.
IT is showing only 839 mb free- and therefore i am unable to run defrag
tried removing programs and deleting not needed files.. but the free space does not seem to update or infact change at all to reflect this.
for example i just deleted 539 mb of $ntunistall files , but still 863 mb free
run diskmgmt.msc and shows 3% available.
disk clean up shows a good clear and rerun shows 0 to to be released.
just downloaded and ran jdiskreport so if there is any information from that scan that will help you to help me let me know and i will post
many thanks in advance

Try moving all video, graphics and music files...from My Documents to the other partition.
You don't need MB of free space, you need GB.

i realise that hamluis;)
there arent any videos , music or documents on that partition.. only sysytem and program files.
which is why i am sure there is something odd going on.
update:
after deleting a few more files , ( still no change in space free- and yes i did put the trash out!!)tried another defrag stopped -said disk might be corrupted.
run chkdsk/f which i did.and deleted all but most recent restore points .
the space went up to 4.46gb enough space to run a another defrag
now have 4.46gb , but there were many files which came up as being unable to defragment
the largest of those being 4.0gb
any suggestions?
