Anyone have any experience with merchant accounts and have some recommendations for some good clearing agents?

Need info for a friend who is looking for a merchant account.

On line shop or a brick-and-morter shop.

I have had good dealings with this online outlet. http://www.merchantexpress.com/

In that case I would also check with his local bank. Some offer merchant accounts tied to business accounts. In some cases you could get better deals regarding fees and you can go physically go to the bank for service.

No matter what, they are going to have to purchase software or purchase/rent a POS terminal.

Edit = if the local bank is a nation chain.

If it was an On-Line shop and was just starting out, I was going to recomend trying somthing like PayPay until sales really warrented a merchant account.

For example, a company only does about $3000.00 USD a year in credit card transactions. It is not worth the expense to my company set up a merchant account to handle Credit Card transactions. I do them all through a service like Paypal. Now if I was doing $3000.00 USD a month, It would be very much worth the expense.
