A simple approach to backing up the registry (XP)

Guide Overview

This guide will explain how to backup the registry to your hard-drive.

Instructions
  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Type in "regedit" (no quotes).
  • Next, click the File menu in the top left.
  • Scroll down to Export
  • Select a easy-to-find location from the resulting box such as the desktop
  • Give your backup registry a name, such as "backup" along with the current date.
It should look like this: Posted Image

 Just a quick note: by default, Windows backs up the registry when you shut down your machine. The above is probably best used for those who are editing registry settings.
