Just a quick note: by default, Windows backs up the registry when you shut down your machine. The above is probably best used for those who are editing registry settings.

Instructions
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type in "regedit" (no quotes).
- Next, click the File menu in the top left.
- Scroll down to Export
- Select a easy-to-find location from the resulting box such as the desktop
- Give your backup registry a name, such as "backup" along with the current date.
