hi there - sorry, took a meal break!

Well, problem half solved. Mozilla firefox opens perfecly now. However a search through the address/location bar still takes me to searchqu engine results despite having reset the filter of keyword:URL.

I don't know what the problem is but after a little diggin around I decided to change the value of keyword:URL to

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

This prevents re-direction to searchqu based results, but re-directs me to the website for the top result for google (usually wikipedia based). Obviously I'd wanted it to behave as before - just a list of results from Google.

Any further insights would be really appreciated!!

Thanks

Hi,

See here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL#Replacing_Google_with_other_search_engines_for_location_bar_search
The default one for google appears to be http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=

Hi,

From your DDS log, I can see the following:

FF - prefs.js: browser.search.selectedEngine - Web Search

So I assume it's that one you mean.

For that, also, in Firefox, enter about:config in the urlfield again and enter browser.search.selectedEngine in the filter.
Then rightclick on that one and select to reset, or set it to "Google" or so.

Extra note - in case you didn't know... Browser preferences for firefox are not handled through the registry though, but through the about:config in firefox (which is the prefs.js file which is also present in your firefox folder under your useraccount)

thanks so much

it seems to be all working fine now! I should add that under browser:search were another couple of lines showing websearch as the default - I reset all of them and it's good now.

Thanks once again - at least the day lost at my laptop resulted in a fix!!!
