There is a difference between the Metro UI control panel and the control panel we are most accustom to in windows operating systems before Windows 8.

The way to access the 'control panel' is to go to the windows desktop.

Create a short cut to COMPUTER (info on how to do that is below these instructions) so you have an icon on your desktop called Computer shortcut.

Double click COMPUTER, in the menu area at the top of the window you will see OPEN CONTROL PANEL.

Click on this icon, now, to view the entire contents of the control panel, look for an arrow on the upper right area of this window and look for the words "category", click that little arrow and a drop down menu opens, choose small or large icons.

Now all of the control panel options and shortcuts will be viewable and accessible.

Hope this helps those who are lost with that Metro UI menu and not being able to find options such as the administrative tools menu. You will not find it in the Metro UI.

For those who are lost on how to add the COMPUTER icon to your desktop, click the folder called 'Windows Explorer' on your task bar, on the left will be an icon called computer, right click that and choose add shortcut to desktop.

Hope this has helped anyone who has gotten lost finding the correct control panel.

Bruce.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.

MrBruce1959
I did the same thing I did win Windows 7 to add the control panel to the desktop. After clicking the Metro Desktop icon of course.

I right clicked on the desktop and choose change desktop icons at the top left area of the screen and just checked the box to show the control panel. Actually personal preference is I checked them all.

My first hard drive held 20 Megabytes and never got filled up.

Not sure if that will work when you're in the Metro UI, but it's been a while since I've messed with Windows 8.

Hello,

There are several ways to open control panel in windows 8.

1.When you get the very first start window (Metro UI panel) start typing "Control Panel"..then you will see the icon.

2.Or Right Click on the Start window, you can see a button called All Apps click it, under the widows system list, you can find the control panel icon.

3.Or Click Desktop Icon, take your cursor into the left bottom corner, right click, you will also find the control panel option there.

Thanks
