============= FINISH: 21:23:57.73 ===============
Dear Bleeping Computer experts
I am having problems with a PC with Windows XP SP3 OS. In the last month or so the computer started to freeze during browsing (usually after playing waveshock content, e.g. youtube movie) and also during Skype calls (with video). Interestingly, I have the impression it got worse after switching to a wireless Modem.
I am not sure whether it is a virus or something else. I tried in the last 3 days to run a GMER scan (which took around 12 hrs on my computer!) and managed only now, after it froze several times and the computer needed to be brute force rebooted in order to start another scan. In addition, I saw once the following message from Windows:
"Windows- Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \windows\system32\config\SysEvent.Evt. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Also, in the Event viewer after each freeze there were several Error Messages in the System section:
Error 1: Source: atapi, Event ID 9, The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.
Error 2: Source: Disk, Event ID 7: The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.
Error 3: Source: Service Control Manager, Event ID 7009, Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the lxdnCATSCustConnectService service to connect.
Error 4: Source: W32Time, Event ID 17, Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of the manually configured peer 'time.windows.com,0x1'. NtpClient will try the DNS lookup again in 15 minutes. The error was: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host. (0x80072751)
There are also events in the Application section:
Warning 1: (many times): Source: PrefDisk, Event ID: 2001, Unable to read the disk performance information from the system. Disk performance counters must be enabled for at least one physical disk or logical volume in order for these counters to appear. Disk performance counters can be enabled by using the Hardware Device Manager property pages. Status code returned is data DWORD 0.
Error 1: Source: crypt32, Event ID 8, Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt> with error: The server name or address could not be resolved
Error 2: Source: Application Hang, Event ID 1002, Hanging application Acrobat.exe, version 9.4.5.236, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Error 3: Source: Application Hang, Event ID 1002, Hanging application firefox.exe, version 6.0.1.4259, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Error 4: Source: Application Error, Event ID 1000, Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module urlmon.dll, version 6.0.2900.3698, fault address 0x0003df2f.
and so on also for other applications (e.g. Chrome.exe, WINWORD.exe)
I will appreciate your professional opinion regarding this problem.
Enclosed by are the DSS and GMER logs, as requested.
Best regards
Gie
