Windows XP has become a real mess & unrepairable
my XP version is an upgrade from Windows 98
I can install Windows 98 from CD & then Windows XP from CD, straightforward enough
BUT i want my Hard Drive to be empty
should i format it first from the desktop? ( right click Local Disc [C] )
and what is the difference between Quick Format and Compression
puzzled, Pajamahead

1) You can't format from the desktop. You have to format during installation when you BOOT to the OS cd.
2) The difference between quick format and compression? I'll assume you mean the difference between quick and full format. Quick format is just that, a quick format of the hd. During a full format, the system runs chkdsk /r prior to formatting.

But Microxoft says it better and with more conviction for those who prefer a quoted source/reference, IMO
