system boots up fine, but won't stay on... everything starts up fine, then it just shuts down after a few minutes

Ah, maybe the power supply fan went bad. I've changed a few of them on Dells because they were really noisy and seemed close to failure.

Glad you were able to get this computer up and running again. :thumbup2:

Sorry we were not able to pin-point the exact cause of the problem before you brought it into a repair shop, but the difference is a repair shop has hands on contact with the computer and can switch parts in and out to come up with a quick solution.

When computers shut down with out being told to do so, the first thought is a component is over heating and causing the shut down.

Power supplies are often on the list of hardware causing such issues, however in this thread that piece of hardware has not yet been mention.

Regardless, glad your problem has been resolved and thank you for posting back at us and letting us know what solved the problem.
