Very sad that I cannot resolve this issue. Bios have not been touched. I pulled out the hard drive and put it back in and nothing. I cannot get passed the black screen with the following:
"PXE-Media test failure, check cable"
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
No Operating System Found.
I have a Restore DVD that came with my laptop but it won't start up when I put into the CD drive.
I have had this laptop for 6 years, I know what all of you are thinking, "its old," but it was my first laptop.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Go into the BIOS and see if the hard drive shows up there.

1) Replace the battery on the motherboard
2) After replacing the battery, go into bios and change the boot order so the optical drive is first and the hd is second
That should solve your problem.

That should solve your problem.

....You (the OP) might also want to check for any loose/disconnected cables/connections.
