Three quarters of the display on my HP Mini 110 is missing - showing black with vertical colored lines.

The machine is perfectly usable if I plug in an external monitor and I would have been happy enough with this as a solution.

Except, now I want to perform a system recovery to factory settings. The external monitor doesn't seem to function during this process, and I can't see what's going on to perform the procedure with only one quarter of the original screen displaying.

I'm guessing I need to repair the display connection/s. If that is the only way forward, how would I do that?

Are there any other options?

Sounds like a loose connection between the display and the pc part of the mini.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Yeah, I figured that out. Any alternative to opening up the machine and tinkering inside? Particularly in regard to performing a system recovery to factory settings with only one quarter of the screen viewable?

You will have to open the machine up.
