Im getting new RAM for my system. I am upgrading from 4GB 1GBX4 1066 Mhz to 8GB 4GBX2. Now my board came stock with 1066 Mhz. Can i install 1333 or 1600 Ram with my stock board or will i run into issues?

@fEaR iTsElF510

The 4 X 1GB memory sticks currently installed in your computer are rated at 1333Mhz.

Given that they are running at 1066Mhz can only mean that you're motherboard's (FSB) memory support maxes out at 1066Mhz.

There is the possibility of overclocking the memory. However, the downside is your current memory sticks and motherboard are not designed for it.

Yes it is a Inspiron 560......regardless if my Board will allow it to run at 1333 or 1600.....if i get 1600 Ram will it still work even at 1066 or will it not accept it at all?

It would downclock to the slowest speed which is 1066, so it would be a waste of money to buy any faster ram then 1066.

Well my Grand plan is to build a system. I want to buy all the parts that i can use in my current system that i will eventually use in my custom build. As far as a waste of money.....on newegg i would spend 6 extra dollars to buy 1600 rather then 1066. I think im going to get the 1600 i was just worried if it wouldnt work but if it just downclocks it then it will work for me. Thank you for the info to help me make my choice...thank you very much.

Just so you know, as long as you use the exact same type of memory (RAM), you'll have no problems with compatibility.

Each RAM module has multiple profiles, among which the ideal or best supported setting is set as Default. In your case, when you do purchase a 1600Mhz stick, your motherboard will automatically choose the 1066Mhz profile and run the RAM at those timings.

Note: If you're going in for Performance/Enthusiast grade memory kits, it would be a good idea to check with the memory compatibility list of your motherboard's mftr. I have seen cases where some motherboards are picky about memory brands.

Also to avoid problems, it is better to have exact ram sticks rather then having mixed.
