Hello,

This is the 2nd time I've had an issue with the Google Redirect Virus. The first time I had it, Hitman Pro was able to remove it. However, this time around it has not been able to fix it. As well, I have also run TDSSKiller, Malwarebytes, CCcleaner, along with my Webroot Spysweeper, and none of them have fixed the issue.

I've also checked the following:
- I'm not being redirected through a proxy server change (it isn't, my Firefox options are set to no proxy)
- When I first took a look at it, I noticed there were no entries at all in my Hosts file. However, I've since added in the 127.0.0.1 localhost entry, which is the only entry in it now.

The site I am most commonly redirected to is something like "webplains.net" or something like that, (it pops up very fast). Attached is my log below.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi numark79, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Firstly,
  • Please launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, click the Update tab, and then Check for Updates.
  • Then choose the Scanner tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Secondly,
Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.
  • In the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) paste the following in bold:

    netsvcs
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two Notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.
