I had a virus I could not clean. (W32.crypt I think it is) I backed up everything to a external hd, and tried to do a system recovery. It got to 48% and I got a error message.
error 0x400100200001005

I tried to recover twice. Now the files are gone from the HD and the recovery disk won't go through. I tried the Kapersky recovery but no help there...
I am trying to use the recovery disks that were made from my computer when I first purchased it. I used them a couple of years ago and it all worked fine.

I did a HP back up to a external drive and then tried to restore to original factory settings. It was fine until it reaches 48% complete and then error (# previous stated)... I ran equipment check and all hardware tested ok. I have tried several times with same result. I tried kapersky rescue disk and no help there either.

Any advice, I thought about upgrading to windows 7 64 bit. I have vista 32 bit. can I run 64 bit windows 7, if I buy the full version of windows 7 64 bit?

PLEASE HELP....Thanks in advance. Cmax

Yes you can run Windows 7 64bit, but I would recommend getting more RAM first. What kind of hardware check did you perform?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

YOUR NOT GOING TO BELIVE THIS (i don't).... I store my emergency disks in a fancy padded disk holder.(a friend gave me) I decided to look for scratches to see if they somehow got damaged..... there was some "glop" on my rescue disk!... I cleaned it and it worked fine..... UNREAL!

Don't forget the basics.......Thanks for all the help.... Cmax
