Backup Media Options for Driveimage XML

When using Driveimage XML, do you have to backup you cloned disk image to another hard disk in order to get a proper restore? Can your backup destination be a CD, DVD or USB flash drive? Can you copy or burn the backup image from on media to another?

This question is based on thcbytes excellent tutorial “How to Backup and Restore your hard drive with DriveImage XML”
