When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

Have you tried resetting it back to factory defaults?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

The redirects still happen?

By resetting the router to default are you using the little button with a paper clip?

Redirects are still happening. The reset was done when the firmware was updated.

That was a router reboot not a reset, please locate the reset switch and get something like a pencil or a paper clip and hold it in for 30 seconds then release.

OK. The router was reset to the factory defaults. Brought back up without any problems. Nothing changed. Still getting redirects and the three error messages when the computer comes up.

Description of the three errors on start up.

When I start my computer, everything comes up fine. Desk top and a calendar (Remind Me) opens automatically without a problem. I can open Firefox and it operates normally. This happens about 10-15 seconds after the XP Welcome. About 46 seconds after the XP Welcome, the Desktop blinks and I can hear the C drive become active. About 1 min and 17 seconds after the Welcome the three errors shown below are displayed on the screen. Sometimes only the Intuit and the Garmin errors come up. When this happens I delete both of these error messages and everything seems to be OK except for the redirects. At other times all three of the error messages come up. When all three of the error messages come up, and I delete them I lose my McAfee virus scan software. It is no longer shown as active. When this happens I load McAfee manually and again, except for the redirects, everything seems to be OK. This seems to indicate that deletion of the Windows error is causing the loss of McAfee. I tried to get a copy of the detailed error report but found no way to get it.

I tried to add a copy of the images for these errors but Pastebin wouldn’t accept it.

GarminMapUpdater.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

IntuitUpdateService.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The only thing that I have of Intuit is Turbo Tax and I haven’t used it since April this year.

If there is anything else I can get for you to help with this problem let me know and I’ll do my best to get it to you. I may need your technical help to do it though.

You say you have McAfee can you try removing it and see if that resolves the issue, and are these applications updated?

McAfee has been completely removed from my computer. Used the Microsoft removal and also the McAfee tool to completely remove the software. Did not reinstall McAfee and the problems still exist when the computer is started. Is there any way to fix these error messages and the redirects short of cleaning out my computer and reinstalling XP? Is there any danger that I have a virus that I might be sending to friends through email or other means?
I have kept all of the applications that I use updated.

We have ruled out the router and basic malware scans have shown nothing, so I would like for you to Please follow the instructions in ==>Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

Most importantly please be patient till you get a reply to your topic.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
