I have downloaded a visual basic video tutorial in .swf format.I tried playing it using Adobe Shockwave player but failed to do so.Kindly suggest me alternatives(with links if possible).Thank you for the help

Try VLC. It will play anything.

Maybe I'm missing something here but wouldn't you use Adobe Flash Player to open a .swf file?

Have you ever seen a physical Adobe Flash Player? He's using something that uses Flash but isn't working. So the best way to test it is use VLC because it will play anything.

Frank, the OP stated they tried to use Adobe Shockwave player. Totally different than Flash.

And, no, I've never physically seen either one of them! Same goes for VLC. :wink:

I know VLC plays many types of files but I don't think .swf is one of them. Sounds like a good question for their forum?

Shockwave is just another name for Flash. It's the same thing. There's no such thing as a player for either and I don't know why Adobe insists on using the word "player" when it just confuses people. There are several media players that use Flash and VLC is probably the best because it will play anything. So it's good to use as a test.

I am unable to understand the solution.I have tried everything obvious like using VLC and downloading adobe shockwave player.Now I know adobe shockwave is not a player.Kindly suggest a solution.I really need to go through the tutorials.Please

comet@earth, maybe if you provide more information we can help you.

Your operating system? (WinXP Pro, sp3)

Internet browser? (IE8) Are you able to view the video while online?

Where was the video downloaded from? Please show the URL. More info needed. Is there an option to download in a common video format? (.avi, .wmv, .mov)

Do you have Flash Player installed and is it the current version? (v.10.3.183.7) It is shown in the Control Panel.

It could be DRM protected and therefore not downloadable.

OS:WIN 7 ULTIMATE
FLASH PLAYER INSTALLED AND WORKING(I watch videos online frequently)
It is a torrent file downloaded from Kickass Torrent
Also I tried running the swf using IE but a save file dialog appears again and again.

All my .swf files play quite happily with the freeware Irfanview.

My OS is XP Home, SP3, but I did run a .swf file on a Win 7 Professional computer, using Irfanview, just last Friday.

May be worth a shot.

So is this file supposed to be available to be downloaded legally? As I said before, it seems like DRM issues.
