I was referred to use combofix by a friend, but was not warned and never saw (or probably would have noticed) the cautions on how dangerous it can be. Now I cannot find my original files, and everything seems to be almost completely reset. I want to use the system restore point that I assume was created at the start of the program, but have no idea how to find it and have been unable to find anything approaching the subject through google or this forum. I do not know where the combofix program itself is on my computer, and am hesitant to poke around for it. Also I no longer have the log in front of me and do not know how to find it, but the positive changes are not nearly worth the loss of data. Please help.

Hello.

The ComboFix log can be found at C:\Combofix.txt

Please copy and paste its contents into your next reply.

I cannot open my computer (or anything else from the panels on the right) from my start menu. Is there another way to access the information? (Using windows 7)

Hi.

Are you able to access Task Manager? Press (Ctrl+Alt+Delelte)

Yes. The task manager is appearing and I can click between the tabs (so it is responding at least)

Also, in case the detail will help: when I try to left click on "Computer" or my name from the start menu it gives the busy arrow and then nothing happens except that the menu closes. This also happens with Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, Connect To, Control Panel, and Default Programs. However I can access the Recent Items (which seems older than they should be), Network, and Help and Support.

Hello,

Bring up Task Manager, then go to File-> New Task(Run...)

In the dialogue box that appears, please type notepad C:\combofix.txt

Does the ComboFix log open? If so, please post its contents in your next reply.

I have received help on this outside. It turned out it that a registry was deleted. Thank you very much for your time and mental energy Blade.
