I bought my wife a camcorder, and we're learning how to operate it. The primary function will just be videos of the Grandkids and the wildlife that wanders through the yard.
I see it requires an SD card ( up to 32 GB ). So I went to Newegg, where I buy most of my parts. Looks like most are in the $40-50 range. I don't know what specs to look for in a card - seems like the greatest variance is the speed class ratings - though with the small amount of use we will have, I don't know if that is important. What do you think........ just go with the cheapest???

SD card question How to select one

You'll want a faster card. If you get a SD card with a slow speed rating, you might not be able to record to long in a HD setting, as it will want to write data to the card faster than the card can accept it, which is just begging for problems.
I'd suggest going with a "class 10" speed rating. This will allow you to record in HD without worries. Class 10 is the fastest speed, allowing 10MB/s write speed, specially seeing how you can get the faster card for about the same price.
It's also a good idea to have at least 1 back up card (usually having 3 or 4 backups is helpful, too!).
Here's a list of the class and their write speed.....
Class 2 – 2MB/s
Class 4 – 4MB/s
Class 6 – 6MB/s
Class 8 – 8MB/s
Class 10 – 10MB/s
