Hello all! Thanks so much for all the help! BoopMe requested I move here from this forum so I have started the preparations for this topic. The thing is I am going to be out of town, starting tomorrow. I will be back Sunday night. I also haven't backed up for a couple of days, so that's running right now and would seem to be a prudent, but time consuming, step. Would it be best for me to finish a backup, the cd emulation stoppage and the two logs, and post 'em up ASAP, or shall I wait until I get back to post or to run the programs?
A quick summary: Yesterday (8/16/2011) Google started redirecting, and my antivirus (AVG) sent me here from their forums. I got a lot of help from BoopMe and we ended up in this forum today. At this point IE will go to my homepage, and any links (I added BleepingComputer to the favorites yesterday), but it will not load any search engine or search results. IE says "cannot connect." Additionally I have learned that I was not getting updates from Windows RE: IE 8, and Java says I have the correct update but the security check program from yesterday's topic says I don't. The Secunia scanner at this link also told me that I don't. I fixed the IE update but it mentions two and only one downloaded and installed, and there are no more offered. I have tried to correct the Java deal, but I doubt I've done it. I also updated Quicktime and un-installed Adobe Flash, since I could not get it to update. Thanks again!

Hello,
I merged your new topic here so I can address your question. Please create the new topic with the logs, an updated description of your computer issues, and a note in bold face, purple or blue would be good color choices, either at the top or bottom of the post indicating that you will be away until X date. That way if by chance a team member should pick up your topic before you get back he/she will know you haven't abandoned it.
Please note that we have a LOT of topics in that forum, and it's possible that you will be back before your topic gets picked up. That is why I encourage you to post the entire topic with logs now.

Hmmm we need to run SFC
Please run SFC (System File Checker)
Please run System File Checker sfc /scannow... For more information on this tool see How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System Files
NOTE for Vista/WIN 7 users..The command needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt.Click Start, type cmd into the Start/Search box,
right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'
You will need your operating system CD handy.
Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
Then click File.. then New Task(Run)
In the box that opens type sfc /scannow ......There is a space between c and /
Click OK
Let it run and insert the CD when asked.
