I have been recommended to post here and to include a DDS log. Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic414635.html ~ OB
I believe I have a virus in my MBR which i have been unable to clean. I downloaded a piece of software which turned out not to be what it was supposed to be and after a day or so I experienced the following symtoms.
1. the application ran but did not appear to do anything.
2. the following day when i started the system, Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit,sp1, it appeared normal but then the background turned black, desktop icons and folders disappeared and then I received a series of Disk Error messages and "attrib.exe" errors.
3. There was no anti-virus software running at the time.
4. I rebooted the machine and completed a sytem restore to a few days previous. This created a stable system.
5.I booted the system with an uptodate ESET SysRescue USB device and completed a scan.
6. It detected 15 infections, and successfully cleaned 9 of them.
7. It is unable to clean 5 instances, with the following error report:
Name: MBR sector of the 0. physical disk.
Threat: Win32/Olmasco.o trojan
8.I have completed on-line scans from ESET and Kaspersky, neither detected any problems.
9. I have installed and ran TDSSKiller, Ver. 2.5.15.0 from Kaspersky Lab, it also detected nothing.
10. I have installed the latest Spybot, with no problem found.
11. I also removed the harddisk and connected it,via USB, to another machine running Virus Vault - it detected nothing.
12. The ESET sysRescue continues to detect 5 instances of the same threat and fails to clean them.
i have attached the DDS reports as requested.
Thanks and regards
