Outlook Express compacting process interrupted. messages disappeared

I've interrupted the "compact" process in OE. Many messages disappeared. They are not in the Recycle Bin. How to find the lost messages? I just discovered that all addresses in the "address book" disappeared as well. How to recover lost items?
