I own a Dell Inspiron 1525 with an Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 processor @ 2.00GHz
I was wondering how would I know which processors are compatible for upgrade, I wouldn't want to buy a processor that isn't compatible.

Technically you could upgrade it but you would have to find a compatible processor which is really hard since they barely sell mobile processor.

best bet would be to contact DELL and see what CPUs are supported by that laptop, and then hunt through sites like ebay or pricewatch, and try to find a used one. A better, easier upgrade maybe to upgrade your ram.

"Since the user is able to customise the unit, included hardware varies from laptop to laptop. However, there are several components which are generally fitted as standard in each unit:
  • Processors: Intel Celeron 540, 550 or 560, Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370, T2390, or T2330, or Intel Core 2 Duo T5250, T5450, T5550, T5750, T7250 or T8100."

I have found that on wikipedia and found a brand new T8100 on ebay for a very reasonable price. 3 has been sold already.

Thank you both for the help, I plan on upgrading the RAM as well.
Also, how much of a difference will the T8100 make compared to my current CPU?

Based from benchmarks it should make a big difference.
