Hi guys

I just built my pc - a corei7 2600k. But the pc won't turn on at all. The fans whir for a brief second and then it's dead. The standby light is on in the motherboard but there is no beep. We have stripped the pc down to the bare essentials one by one and all gives the same reaction. I used an old power source 300watts but still does the same thing. Does this sound like a motherboard failure?

It's possible. But make sure that the motherboard isn't coming in contact with the case or anything that can conduct electricity. If you haven't already, also try powering up the motherboard alone without the CPU installed to see if it will beep at you. Many motherboards require an auxiliary power connector (usually a 4, 6 or 8 pin connector near the CPU socket) in addition to the 24 pin main power connector.

Did you use stand-offs?

Oh god, that's what it was. There were holes that were elevated above the case and some that weren't. I screwed stuff into the non elevated holes and it was making contact. It now works. Thank you!!

The guy at best buy was like "youre building or your boyfriend." -_-
