BleepingComputer.com: Computer Slowed down, even crashes if trying to play games on it

I recently got dragon age. After that my computer has been slowing down. Now if i try to play something, it crashes!
i've done several antivirus checks, but they've all gotten no results.
i'm sure there's still some crap on my comp, but i can't find it.
Any help?

Computer slow-downs can be caused by many things besides an infection. See: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic44694.html

You stated that this started happening after installing dragon age. Have you tried uninstalling it to see if the problem goes away?

I have tried uninstalling dragon age, but that didn't fix the problem for me.

EDIT : I managed to fix the problem myself.
turned out advanced system care was behind the lag.

EDIT2: sigh...but it didn't fix the crashes when trying to play something.
Also, i just ran checkdisk and when it was complete my computer suddenly restarted without letting me even see the results!
so yeah, i'm back at square one.

I'm using Windows Xp
Also, i noticed that if a program stops functioning, i can't shut it down even by taskmanager

The site just says 404 Bad Request and doesn't help if i try again

Grrr. Okay, try this to retrieve your check disk results:

Right click on My Computer click on Manage then Event Viewer
Once Event Viewer is open, select Application
The 4th column of information in the right-hand pane is titled Source , click on the word Source at the top of the column to sort by that column
Scroll through the Source column to find the most recent entry titled Winlogon
Double-click Winlogon to open the CHKDSK results

Well i happened to fix the slowdowns, but i found a NEW problem
if a program stops working, i can't close it with task manager

1) How did you fix the slowdowns
2) Could you explain the new problem in more detail please. For example, what program(s) stop working, when, and how often? And exactly what happens when you try to end the process with task manager?

1) i found a CPU function that was the cause of the slowdowns, so i disabled it.
2) well, Steam would suddenly crash, and it crashes pretty rarely, but now some other programs i've started and closed REFUSE to really close, they just stay in the task manager window. I've even tried to shut down the programs with task manager, but nothing happens. It just stays there.

I need you to be specific please. EXACTLY what did you do - what cpu function?

Again, please be specific. What programs won't shut down? How often? Does it always happen? EXACTLY what happens when you try to end the task with task manager.

Also, what is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

well if i recall correctly, it was tied to the screen frequency rate like 75hz = 3.8ghz 60= 2.8 ghz
after i disabled that, the slowdowns stopped

and the programs. Steam for example, when it crashes (Happens randomly). Even firefox sometimes stops working (Happens randomly also)
when i try to shut them down with taskmanager, it brings up the usual text. I click yes, and it does nothing. I even check if the programs off the process list and it's still there.

EDIT : i just found a new hard drive.
And i only have one. If i try to open it, it says access denied. And i'm the only user on this computer.
