Hello,
I am following the guide to post in this forum but I cannot get DDS nor GMER to work.
DDS just sits having started the scan but doesn't complete and GMER doesn't even start.
Any suggestions?

In addition .. the reason I wanted to use the guide is because Malwarebytes stopped working during an update and now will not run.
I have tried reinstalling it, renaming it etc as advised on numerous forums and I have used Rkill to no avail

Try the following:
NEXT
If the scans wont run in normal mode, then please try running them in safe mode
To Enter Safemode
- Download OTL and save it to your desktop.
- Double click on the
icon to run it. - Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
- Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
- Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
- When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically. - Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
- When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
NEXT
- Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
- Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)
- Click Scan
- Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
- You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
- Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
If the scans wont run in normal mode, then please try running them in safe mode
To Enter Safemode
- Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
- As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
- this will bring up a menu.
- Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
- Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
- go into your usual account
