Hey all!
I'm just after some advice before I go ahead and buy really!
1st PC -
It's time for a new PC for myself. I do a lot of 3D graphics, mainly using 3Ds Max, Photoshop and After Effects, so I'm mainly looking for RAM and CPU.
I have a budget of £500, and so far have spec'd (the whole detailed list can be seen here http://amzn.to/rdVjoE )
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six-core Processor - 2.80 GHz
Gigabyte SKT-AM3 GA-MA770T-UD3 Motherboard
Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS - Hybrid hard drive - 500 GB
CiT 750W Power Supply Unit with PSU and Dual 12V Rails - Black Edition
Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit
Corsair DDR3 1333MHz 8GB (2x240) DIMM Dual Channel
Sapphire HD5570 1GB DDR3 HDMI Graphics Card
Nisis 3 port PCI Firewire Card
LG GH22NS50.AUAA 22x SATA DVDRW Drive - Bare Black
Elite 330 Mid Tower Chassis
I think my only real compromise is the graphics card, but I know ATI cards work well with 3DS Max, and also if I need to, I can easily upgrade this later. I have also read quite a bit about overclocking the x6 with the motherboard I have spec'd, the only thing I haven't spec'd is better cooling because for a mild overclock the reviews never change the fans.
2nd PC-
This is for my parents, they need something fast for office, web browsing, and general day to day stuff, and something that will last a few years without the need to upgrade. So I was thinking along the lines of http://amzn.to/qVip6a -
AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz 2MB Cache Dual Core Processor
Gigabyte SKT-AM2+/AM3 GA-M68M-S2P Motherboard
LG GH22NS50.AUAA 22x SATA DVDRW Drive - Bare Black
Elite 330 Mid Tower Chassis
CiT 650W Power Supply Unit with PSU and Dual 12V Rails - Black Edition
Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit
Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS - Hybrid hard drive - 500 GB - internal - 2.5"
Kingston ValueRAM 4GB DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM Kit
I don't know much about the lower end PC's, so I've kind of stuck with what I know rather than looking totally at price. I know they will probably never use 4gb RAM, but who know's what might happen in a couple of years. I also think I've probably over spec'd the power supply, but the price isn't too much different to say a 300w, so if it seems like a good choice. I'm unsure about the AMD x2, but the reviews seem to like it, and it's cheep! Plus there's always the option to upgrade this easily with other AM3 processors.
Anyway, any advice, confirmation, or just a pointer would be really appreciated, it's been a few years since I was involved in PC hardware!!
Cheers, Dean
