Do you have the XP Home installation disc available as well as the product key code?
Have you made backups of anything you want to keep from your HDD?

I'm assuming you still want to reformat and reinstall windows on the drive, correct?

This netbook doesn't have a disk dive. I have a product code on a sticker on the bottom of the netbook. All my important data is on an external hard drive

If you would like to continue with a system wipe, I will need a bit of time to build the proper steps to be taken on that route.

I am unfamiliar with your particular laptop, but I will try to find the steps needed to be taken to do so.

Other members who are familiar with your laptop may continue this topic as well. :thumbup2:

The hard drive did have some minor problems, as far as I can tell.

In the meantime, you may also want to run the checkdisk utility again as it is sometimes needed to run several times to clean up everything it finds. Please run the utility again and post the findings as described above in post #7.

See if you can spot the differences in the logs of your first and second checkdisk scans if you'd like to check the progress. :thumbup2:

Your disk is looking much better, but without speccy it's harder to asses the state of the drive. And with your .exe's not working, we can't really tell too much else either.

If you could get your hands on an XP Home Installation disk, we would be able to run the SFC scan. That should resolve most of your troubles with updates and .exe's.

Other than that, you may need to restore your system to factory conditions.

Do you know of anyone that has an XP Home Installation disk that you could borrow? Disks with XP Pro would not work correctly for the SFC scan.

I am having trouble finding the proper methods to take to restore your system as of yet. I will keep looking, but maybe you should also try to get your hands on an XP Home disk, maybe from a family member or friend.

You will not violate anything nor hurt the installation cd with the scan, the software will only copy files if needed, that's all.

Well I dont have a cd drive, so that poses a problem.

I got it to reformat, but it still crashers periodically to the same blue screen

It might pose a problem at first glance, but if you could also use an external CD drive via USB, that may be able to work. :thumbup2:

You got it to reformat and reinstall windows?? Or did you just reformat?

Hello again,

Do you have an external CD drive that uses a USB connection?

This could be an external CD burner or DVD burner as well...anything that could read a disk and also connects with a USB connection. We could use this media to read your new Installation disc and reinstall the OS software.

Let us know what you have to work with so we can formulate a plan of action.

I don't have an external drive and don't have access to windows xp home cds, only the windows xp pre loaded into a partition on the netbook's hard drive. I can borrow my mother's laptop if that helps. The only OS media she has is an upgrade disk for windows 7 on her acer that I dont think I can use and xp pro but right now we can't find the cd key.
