BleepingComputer.com: Problems with desktop recognising wireless usb adaptors

Hi I have a desktop computer running a Windows XP SP3 OS. For awhile now Ive been having problems with the computer not recognising Wireless USB adapters. More specifically when initially installed the USB might work fine for abit and then each time the USB is inserted or even when it remains inserted the computer will say to device has malfunctioned, has not been recognised, or cannot be found (This only occurs with wireless adaptor, other USBs work fine).

Now it's not the USB devices themselves because I bought a new wireless adapter to check that. It's not the software or drivers because they work well on other PCs and Ive reinstalled the OS, software etc to check. I've come to the conclusion it must be something to do with the PC hardware because they behave strangely occasionaly such as if I disconnect a working USB from a port another USB might 'disconnect' for a second or so.

My question is, what are the likely components of the PC causing this problem? Can it be software related aswell? what can be done to remedy the problem? I appreciate any help you can give!
