Had a malware infection which has been fixed, but now the computer doesn't know about the printer. Can't re-install printer because "print spooler service is not running". Installed "fixcleaner" and it didn't help. Can't get spooler running through the services option in control panel. Where do I go now?

Welcome to the board. First of all could you tell us which system you are using?

Hi,

Please provide the printer brand, printer model, your computer manufacturer and operating system.

I'm using a Lenovo running under windows XP. It's an HP photosmart 7600. the problem is in the computer, NOT the printer. I can't get the print spooler to run so I can install the printer.

I don't think you will need to reinstall the printer. When the spooler is turned off your system can't "see" the printer or its software.

Try this first -

START/RUN

enter - cmd

Then, at the prompt, type- net start spooler

There are other ways to do it, but try this first.

To Keith1: Net start spooler worked. Many thanks.
